UEP needs to walk on egg shells

As I hear more about the alliance between the United Egg Producers and the Humane Society of the United States, I can’t help but think of a story about an old fellow working in his garden.

While chopping out some weeds from a plant bed, this particularly tender-hearted gentleman accidentally hit a snake with his hoe.  He quickly found a box to put the critter in and took it into the house to care for it.

As time passed and the snake’s wounds healed, the man grew more and more fond of it.  One day as he cared for the reptile, it turned and bit him.

The man was stunned that his benevolence and care would be rewarded in such a fashion and exclaimed “Why would you do that to me after all I’ve tried to do for you?”  The viper replied “well, you knew I was a snake when you picked me up!”

As the Egg Products Inspection Act Amendments of 2012 navigate the troubled congressional waters, I hope my friends in the UEP will reflect on this.  Proceed carefully and remember, you knew what HSUS was when you picked it up.

  1. Well put, Ray! I totally agree.

  2. Hmmm…sounds like a song someone should be singing to the NFU, too…
